LOCAL NH PROJECT WINS NATIONAL AWARD Affordable, Energy-Efficient ICF Design was Key
The Farmington Public Safety Bldg. in Farmington, New Hampshire, USA was recently recognized as one of the most innovative Light Commercial projects in North America. The honor was presented as part of the ICF Builder Awards, an international competition designed to showcase the advantages of building with Insulated Concrete Forms, commonly called ICFs.
The Farmington Public Safety Bldg. was named 2nd Runner-Up in the Light Commercial division. The presentation, witnessed by three hundred construction professionals associated with the industry, took place at the World of Concrete trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada January 24th 2018.
The ICF Builder Awards are given annually to projects that demonstrate outstanding innovation, quality, and craftsmanship in ICF construction. “The variety and scale of projects being built with ICFs is truly astounding,” said Clark Ricks, executive director of ICF Builder Group and organizer of the competition. “It’s time these outstanding projects received recognition, and we feel privileged to take a leading role in that. These projects truly represent the best of the best.”
The ICF Builder Awards are designed to showcase “milestone projects” that set a new benchmark for the industry through a combination of size, complexity, significance, architecture, and other factors. Reflecting ICF growth in the commercial sector, several new categories have been added as well.
This building used the Nudura brand ICF system, and was submitted by Groen Construction. In presenting the award, judges cited the complexity of the design, the striking architecture, and the challenges the construction team overcame to set a new standard for the entire ICF industry.
"To all the Town employees who took it upon themselves to volunteer to assist in whatever way they could. To town residents and businesses who donated whatever they could to help the project become a ‘community event’. My estimate is that we (the town of Farmington) saved over $200,000 in time, effort and materials that were donated. To Groen and their subcontractors, who kept an eye on expenditures and provided suggestions on how to save money; making some changes and modifications without charging or by discounting their fees whenever they could. If we hadn’t received this help and dedication, none of this would have been possible."
